Europe's life sciences capital, at the crossroads of Switzerland, France and Germany.
The host city
Home to Roche, Novartis, Lonza and Sandoz, four of the world's largest life sciences companies, Basel is a city of fewer than 200,000 people that punches well above its weight.
Basel is one of Europe's leading life sciences hubs and lies at the heart of Switzerland's thriving pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. Located at the crossroads of Switzerland, France and Germany, the city combines a rich cultural heritage with a dynamic, international outlook.
Its unique cross-border ecosystem brings together more than 800 companies, 1,000 research groups and nearly 35,000 life sciences professionals across three countries, creating a powerful end-to-end environment that accelerates innovation from lab to launch.
Basel is proving that size is no barrier to global impact: in 2026 Fierce Biotech ranked it among the top emerging biotech hubs worldwide.
